Math Honors Period 2&3
3rd & 4th quarter
5/11-5/16: This week we have worked on Test taking skills and strategies. We have worked with the "Released" EOG from Last year. (Found Below) and some other Testing booklets and test. (Also, Found Below). Please use these tests to prepare for the EOG. I have been challenging the students ALL week that they should attempt to complete each problem 2 ways. They will Know at the end of the EOG how many questions they missed!! :) We are going see great results!!!

April 28- May 2nd: We continued to work with statistical graphs. We took our mid-chapter test and we will take the Algebra Placement test on Monday 5/5. On Tuesday, the students will culminate their Chapter 12 studies with their final Chapter Test of the year on Tuesday 5/6. Below you will find some practice for the Chapter 12 test!

April 21-25: Students completed their Chapter 11 test on Box and whiskers plots this week and evaluated how data is applied to each type of graph. We will continue studying statistical information and learn about Marine Biology's role in statistical data. Please look at "Gilligan's Island" remix (below) for a great way to remember how to set up the box and whiskers plot!
April 7-11- Students are investigating Mean, Median, Mode and Range this week. We will have the Mid-Chapter 11 quiz on Tuesday and we will complete Chapter 11 when we return from break.
April 1-April 4th:The students culminated this week with a test on how to find the area of Geometric Figures. We Found the Surface area of Triangular Prism's, Rectangular Prisms, and Pyramids. The students who completed their homework each night and came to tutoring successfully completed the test. Please encourage your child to complete the nightly homework and if help is needed to come to tutoring.
March 10-21:
We have been working on Geometry and using our algebra knowledge to apply to the area and perimeter of trapezoids, Triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, and composite figures. Students have done great on mixing these two concepts. We completed our Chapter 9 Test on 4/18 and we will begin learning about 3-dimensional figures this week. I have posted the EOG test dates on "Date's to Know".
Tutoring will be cancelled 3/19. We will resume tutoring on 3/26.

Feb. 17-21th: This week we extended our knowledge of algebra with Functions. We finished our week with a mid-chapter test. We worked with how to find the input and output of a function. We also learned how to derive a Function RULE and then also how to graph our functions using the "Input" and the "Output". We learned about the Fibonacci Series and one student created a Youtube see below. Please Enjoy your weekend! The student's test grades have been posted on Powerschool!
SNOW DAY FEB 11 and 12th.. Wow the weather has sure brought us some GREAT family time!!! Tomorrow for us teachers will be a day off to enjoy the snow and our family. So, my assignment for you is to do the same. However, I am offering a 2014 Snow Creation Contest! ALL submissions must be made by 5pm on Sunday Feb.16th.
This contest is the MOST Creative SNOW creation has begun. Each student is challenged to create their finest most glorious creature/creation out of snow. Send a picture of your creation and a "Title" of your creation. Send your entries to [email protected]
You may pose behind your creation, or you can simply send a picture of your creation with the title and a short well written explanation of what "Inspired" you to create it!
6th Grade teachers will Judge the entries. You will find the entries uploaded on the "Fun Photo" page! Parental Permission is suggested and use your snow sense..don't stay out too long. Winner will receive a gift card to Target! Participation is entirely optional!!! Looking forward to seeing your Creations!!!
Below you will see my Vantage point!!! Enjoying the spitfire! Happy Family Time!

Feb. 11: Today we enjoyed learning about sequencing and the Fibonacci Sequence. Please enjoy the video and see if you can find more Fibonacci sequences in nature! See BELOW!!!
January 23- Feb 7:
Second and Third period have been working through Chapter 7. This chapter is the study of Equations. We have learned the difference between an equation and an expression. We have learned to solve for various Variables. We have learned that opposite operations or "Inverse" operations "Undo" each other and that is what we do when we cross over the equal sign to solve for X. We have learned to extract equations out-of word problems. We are working with integers when solving for the variable. They have really been struggling with the 'Steps" because many of them like to do it in their heads. I am standing firm on writing out the equations and solving it to completion. However, many are enjoying the definitive way to solve these problems. I have loved to be able to incorporate all of our past knowledge including rates and percents to solve for our variables. At the end of 6th grade, ALL of my honors classes will be taking an Algebra I readiness exam. This coupled with teacher recommendations and grades will determine whether they will be able to enter into the Algebra 1 course offered in the 7th grade. So we have been really working hard at understanding the process.
Students are daily using their "Warm-up" sheets that are new this quarter. Students turn-in their "Warm-up" sheet every Friday for a weekly grade. As we get closer to the "End-of the Year", students are being held accountable with this sheet. Please see sheet below if your child loses it!
2nd and 3rd Period Tutoring time is now held on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30-5pm. This is the time where the student will have circled problems that they may have struggled with or a review for a re-take test. I am also offering Lunch-time Tutoring too. They sign up for this for a short answer to a problem they may be struggling too!
ALL of our significant dates are on the 'Dates to Know Tab" above! I try to keep that updated.
In order for the student to Make-up a test, he/she needs to make sure that they have completed the complimentary study guide. This is a great tool to bring to Tutoring for questions.
Please bring-in Pencils.. many students are completely OUT OF PENCILS and normal disposable supplies.
We also started "PHONE CALL" Friday. Friday is a time where I will call students' parents to Give Praises for a week of hard work! It has been great to speak to so many parents and grandparents and brothers and sisters. Family members the students were eager to share with regarding their school success! Please encourage your child in this!
